Homeless Gear Mission
To provide homeless men, women and children with the supplies that they need to survive on the streets and the support and companionship that they need to navigate the path from homelessness to self-sufficiency.
From Sister Mary Alice Murphy
“If each of us tries to help the homeless and those in poverty in one small way, eventually we can end homelessness. Homeless Gear helps those who endure the elements to survive not for the challenge of the mountain and the outdoors but to make it through the night.”
Homeless Gear Family of Programs
Homeless Gear collects unwanted or surplus Outdoor Gear (packs, sleeping bags, tents, tarps, etc), Outdoor Basic Clothing (coats, rain gear, boots, etc), Hygiene Products (deodorant, disposable razors, shampoo, etc) and distributes these items to the homeless.
Children In Need
The focus of our Children in Need program is to provide homeless children basic clothing, hygiene items, and other essentials. We want to ensure that they are protected from the elements, able to meet health and hygiene needs and have as much normalcy in their lives as possible.
Non Perishable Food
We provide non perishable and readily-consumable food and drink items to the homeless, in both component form and in take-away meal bags, through our Street Outreach program, our regular distribution events and to many other facilities that serve the homeless population throughout the state.
The Homeless Gear Outreach is a program providing life-sustaining supplies and support to the homeless community throughout Fort Collins and the surrounding area, while offering connections to programs and services which encourage movement toward self-sufficiency.
Hand Up is a two-track program that aims to (a) help homeless, near homeless and low-income individuals gain and maintain employment and (b) provide intensive support – beyond employment – to single homeless women as they work to regain self-sufficiency.
